We are excited to share that our annual HCMS Culture Fair will take place on Thursday, May 16th! This event celebrates the rich cultural backgrounds of our students and community, with a special focus this year on the theme of food and tradition.
📅 Event Overview
- Date: Friday, May 16
- Time: 8:40 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.
The Culture Fair is organized into two parts:
- Cultural Information Booths – Located in the Small Gym
- Tasting Stations – Located in the Cafeteria
Students will attend during a designated time with their grade level.
🌍 Theme & Food Guidelines
This year’s theme, “Cultural Food”, explores how food reflects traditions—whether tied to holidays, celebrations, seasons, or daily life.
To ensure safety for all students:
- Food will only be distributed at the supervised tasting stations in the Cafeteria.
- All food samples are being provided by a catering service, allowing us to clearly communicate ingredients and address allergy concerns.
- See list of food and ingredients HERE. (Speak with your student and review if you have dietary concerns).
💡 What to Expect
During their visit, students will interact with booths featuring cultural artifacts, visuals, and information related to:
- The significance of certain foods in cultural traditions
- Typical mealtime customs and settings
- Key ingredients and common dishes
- Regional maps and visuals
- How food traditions may have been adapted in the U.S.
- Local restaurants that reflect those cultural cuisines
Students will use an electronic passport on their iPads to guide their learning and reflections as they explore.
